Our CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) Day Program is a 3-week program.

Classes are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

CNA - WEEKENDS

HCTI's CNA Weekend Program is offered over 5 weekends.

Classes are on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

ONLINE CNA CLASS

This Self-Paced CNA Program is a hybrid class that combines online learning (didactic) with in-person clinical skills practice.

Students can start the online class any day, and in-person clinicals are required—refer to the Clinical Schedule below for available clinical dates.

What does a SRNA/CNA do?

An SRNA assists with care for patients’ day-to-day needs or activities of daily living. Job expectations may differ depending on the facility but general responsibilities can include:

* Turning or repositioning patients

* Taking patients’ vital signs including blood pressure and temperature

* Dental/denture are

* Answering patient call lights

* Hair and nail care; hygiene and grooming

* Documenting patients’ health issues and report to nurses

* Feeding patients, measuring and recording their food and liquid intake

* Cleaning rooms and bed linens

* Emptying bedpans, colostomy bags and urinals; measuring output

* Post-mortem care

Who can take this SRNA/CNA class?

* Must be age 17 years or older.

* Must have a high school diploma, GED or the ability to read and comprehend at a 7th grade level for reading and math(an assessment will be given without proof of high school diploma or GED).

* Applicants must pass a background check (pursuant to KRS 216.789 No persons with a felony conviction related to theft; abuse or sale of illegal drugs; abuse, neglect, or exploitation of an adult; or a sexual crime. will be allowed to enroll in this NATCEP course.)

* You are prohibited from taking this course if your name (verified by social security number) is listed on the Nurse Aide Abuse Registry or the Kentucky Adult Caregiver Misconduct Registry. 

* Prospective students must also pass a TB assessment and a 2-step TB skin or blood test.

* Students must have the ability to perform the duties of a nurse aide (bending, twisting, standing, lifting, etc.).

How long does it take to complete the class?

  • CLASSROOM FORMAT: This classroom option is a 3-week, 75-hour course. It consists of 59 hours (2 weeks) of classroom curriculum training with hand-on skills practice in our simulation lab. During the 3rd week, students will complete a 2-day (16 hour) clinical rotation at a local clinical site.

What is the total cost of taking the class?

CNA COURSE

The total cost payable to HCTI is $1050 (Day CNA Course)/$1150 (PM/Weekend/Online CNA course).

This includes:

Application and registration fee – $150, this fee is non-refundable and is due at the time the application is submitted!

Tuition/Study Binder

Uniform Voucher - up to $50 (Included)

HCTI offers Textbook Rentals - $25 (available as supplies last; must be returned prior to being scheduled for the SRNA state exam)

Liability insurance – (REQUIRED; not included)

2-Step PPD/TB Skin test - negative result - from within the past 12 months or less (student must present proof); cost varies depending on provider

Unless payment plan arrangements are made with our office, payment in full is required at least 10 days before you may course start date. Check the Tuition Payment Portal for further information on payment plan options.

Purchase of a stethoscope and a manual blood pressure cuff is also recommended for at-home practice but not required. For students who plan to take the State Exam upon completion of the course, the total cost is $135 and IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE COURSE COST. The test is scheduled through the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS) and is administered at one of the KCTCS campuses. Your test will be scheduled by HCTI upon complete payment of all fees due and return of any loaned property of HCTI. Please note that your government issued id and social security card must name match exactly in order to test. Laminated social security cards are not accepted for the test.

Payment Arrangements Available!

We offer the option for students to make payments toward the total cost for Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (SRNA/CNA), Phlebotomy and EKG Technician courses (classroom format only). If this option is beneficial to you, please ask us about it or signup during Enrollment. To sign up for a Payment Plan, select the "Payment Arrangement" option. This is how it works:

$150 Deposit/Enrollment Fee is due with Application and is Non-Refundable. This initial payment allows for completion of background checks, release of course materials and access to online resources (username and password are assigned) to the student. Failure to pay the payment plan as required could result in forfeiture of all payments made!

If you purchase/rent options from the school, the amount of your Payment Plan will be increased.

There are NO refunds!

When and where is TB testing done?

You must present the results of a negative TWO-STEP Tuberculin PPD skin test or blood test. You must have these completed in order begin the class. The TB Risk Assessment is done by the HCTI instructor at no cost to students. The PPD/TB skin test must be completed and read by a medical provider outside of HCTI at the student’s cost.

The TWO-STEP Tuberculin PPD skin test takes a minimum of 12 days to complete. If you are unable to get the TB skin test, have had a positive reaction to a TB skin test, have had TB in the past, or been vaccinated for TB you may need a blood test or chest x-ray to meet this requirement.

No student will be allowed into a clinical facility site without a negative TWO-STEP TB PPD skin test or blood test or a negative chest X-ray performed within the last 5 years.

Where do I find information about Kentucky state SRNA testing?

Is my Kentucky SRNA/CNA certification recognized by other states?

Each state has different regulations regarding nurse aide licenses.  If you plan to work in a state other than Kentucky, you need to check that state’s reciprocity policy.

How do I get a complaint resolved?

In the event of a misunderstanding or of unfulfilled expectations, please contact the Program Coordinator for a prompt resolution. If you that feel that HCTI has violated Kentucky statutes or regulations, you may send a written complaint to the Kentucky Commission for Proprietary Education. 

To file a complaint with the Kentucky Commission on Proprietary Education, each personal filing must submit a completed “Form to File a Complaint” (PE-24) to the Kentucky Commission on Proprietary Education by mail to Capital Plaza Tower, Room 302, 500 Mero Street, Frankfort, KY 40601.  This form can be found on the website at www.kcpe.ky.gov.
