What Does an EKG Technician Do?

Electrocardiograph (EKG or ECG) Technicians are trained to:

  • Operate EKG machines to monitor heart rhythms

  • Prepare patients for testing and apply electrodes

  • Record and analyze electrical activity of the heart

  • Recognize arrhythmias and irregular patterns

  • Work alongside doctors, nurses, and cardiac teams

What You’ll Learn

The EKG Technician curriculum is designed to give you both the theoretical knowledge and practical training to confidently perform EKGs and support cardiac assessments.

Topics include:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the heart

  • Electrical conduction system of the heart

  • 12-lead EKG procedure and electrode placement

  • Common cardiac arrhythmias and abnormalities

  • EKG strip interpretation

  • Patient care, communication, and safety

  • HIPAA, legal, and ethical responsibilities

You’ll have the opportunity to practice live EKG setups and build confidence in clinical skills through simulation labs.
