What Does an Certified Medication Aide Do?

A Certified Medication Aide (CMA), also called a Kentucky Medication Aide (KMA):

is a trained healthcare professional who administers routine medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse. CMAs play a vital role in supporting patients and healthcare teams.

CMA-I: administers routine medications

CMA-II: has advanced training and may administer insulin from pre-filled syringes/pens under nurse delegation

Who Can Become a CMA?

CMAs are usually State Registered Nurse Aides (SRNAs) or direct care staff in long-term care facilities who complete additional training and have been a SRNA for atleast 6 months and are currently in good standing at their ork facility; and pass the Medication Aide Certification Exam (MACE).

* 6 Continuous Months Work Experience as a CNA in LTC

* In good standing currently at a healthcare facility (must provide a letter of

Good Standing)

* CMA-II - must be a CMA-I

Typical Duties of A CMA

Administer routine medications safely;

Confirm patient identity and correct dosage; Document and monitor patient responses; Report observations to supervising nurses.

CMA Program Tuition Costs & Fees

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) program at Health Careers Training Institute (HCTI) is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely administer medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
